Disclaimer - Promise Opens Doors TEFL Certificate Programs
On the Programs:
Promise Opens Doors is a non-profit organization established by the founders of PromiseK14, an online education company providing high-quality English language instruction to over 14,000 students since 2004. We see the Promise Opens Doors TEFL Certificate Programs as an extension of the mission to bring the English language to every student around the world.
Promise Opens Doors TEFL Certificate Programs are offered to provide courses in the fundamentals of ELT (English Language Training) to current or prospective teachers and administrators. The programs are structured as pass (at 80% proficiency) or no pass, may be completed entirely online, and include a required number of practicum hours. In the case of the 60-hour course, this includes 15 hours of required practice teaching. For the 120-hour, this includes 10 hours of practice teaching. Unique to the Promise Opens Doors TEFL Certificate Programs, the practice teaching hours are fulfilled online in our established classrooms for our North America participants. Other participants can work with one of our employer partners to fulfill their teaching practicum in one of their online classrooms. For non-North American participants, the responsibility lies with the participant to find and complete their teaching practicum requirement.
Note that Promise Opens Doors TEFL Certificate Programs are NOT a teaching certification. Those seeking teaching certification should contact their respective state departments of education.
Personal data (i.e. email, first name, last name, phone number) will be collected solely for the purpose of registration and completion of the Promise Opens Doors TESOL/TEFL Certificate for Online Teaching Program. Such information will not be shared with third parties. For those participants in the 60-hour or 120-hour programs with teaching practicum, they will need to submit private information (SSN and address) through a third-party system (Checkr) for criminal history screening. This information is not collected or stored by Promise Opens Doors. The 45-hour version does not have this requirement.
Payment processing services enable Promise Opens Doors to process payments by credit card or other online payment systems. To ensure greater security, Promise Opens Doors shares only the information necessary to execute the transaction with the financial intermediaries handling the transaction. Some of these services may also enable the sending of timed messages to the User, such as email notifications concerning the payment.
No part of this course material may be reproduced or transmitted in any form or by any means, electronic or mechanical, including photocopy, or downloaded into any informational storage or retrieval system, without permission from Promise Opens Doors.
Every effort has been made to contact the copyright holders for permission to reprint borrowed material.
Once a participant has completed one of Promise Opens Doors TEFL Certificate Programs, they have a 2-week access window to the online material. At the end of two weeks, their registered email will be removed from the system and further access will be denied. From that point, future requests for classroom materials, digital copies of certificates or career questions can be directed to our Career Center.
On our Job Placement Guarantee:
Promise Opens Doors places a guarantee on its TESOL/TEFL Certificates that participants of the program will find a teaching position within 3 months (or less) of their graduation. If they do not, then Promise will return 50% of the tuition fee (sans the registration fee) to the participant.
This guarantee extends to those participants who have been accepted into the 120-hour and 60-hour Certificate Programs. The guarantee does NOT apply to the 45-hour participants.
Additionally, the guarantee does not extend to (unless otherwise notified) those participants who:
1) do not have a bachelor's degree in any discipline
2) are not fully-fluent or native English speakers
This guarantee is made void if the participant does not complete the program within the required timeframes. The guarantee is also made void if the graduate does not "actively pursue" employment within the three month time period post-graduation. "Actively pursue" is defined as applying and communicating with no less than five of Promise Opens Doors' employer partners. Promise keeps open lines of communication with its partners and is able to verify if a graduate is seeking employment with one of them.
